Did you know that 16% of British Workers have Office Pets? Apparently, they do.
There’s all kinds of research out there to suggest that animals can help to reduce stress levels and anxiety. A study published in the International Journal of Workplace Health Management suggested being around animals at work was a morale boost, brought stress levels down throughout the day and improved working relations amongst colleagues; allegedly making it easier for employees to form friendships, decreased the bickering and encouraged social activities outside of the workplace.
There are times (certainly following the recent Fireworks Fortnight) that I would disagree with dogs bringing stress levels down as my 10 year old Westie, Mac Mills, can have me pulling my hair out sometimes (as well as his own – many Westie owners out there will sympathise.)
Anyway, it got me wondering if this was true. Joking aside, I love having my little Macaroon potter about in the Office with me from time to time; but surely it’s not for everyone. What about people with allergies, or people that just aren’t mad on animals full stop?
Do you have an Office Pet? Dog? Cat? Gecko? Does it make a difference to your Office? I’d love to know, whether good or bad. Or maybe you don’t even notice they’re there. Good Kitty/Doggy/Gecky…
Drop me a line, let me know!
